How Transformational Faith Can Change Your Life
Faith is important. Transformational faith changes nearly everything.
When I talk about transformational faith, I am referring to an act of faith that totally transforms your life.
What does transformational faith always do?
In the spiritual realm, it will absolutely change the trajectory of your entire life. It is the faith that allows the grace of God to work in your life to save you from sin and death! It is the entrance to the abundant eternal life that Jesus promised and is the gateway to a lifelong relationship with God.
In the physical realm, it can free you from addictions and harmful habits. God’s power is greater than any addiction, no matter how serious. He can transform your mind and body so you can experience a life free from uncontrollable urges.
What are the limitations of transformational faith?
Faith will allow God to work in our lives in so many ways. When Jesus was walking the earth, he used phrases like theses many times: ‘according to your faith’ or ‘your faith has saved you’ (Luke 8:48, Luke 18:42). Faith was key to the effective working of his power!
So, if we don’t have faith, we will certainly miss out on some of the mighty work of God in our lives. When we are sick or suffering, we can stretch out in faith believing that God will heal us, if it is his sovereign will.
We also know that everyone who has great faith is not healed! For example, Paul pleaded with the Lord for the healing of his thorn in the flesh but was not healed (2 Corinthians 12:7-8).
Here are some reasons why you may not experience the power of God, even if you have great faith:
It doesn’t fit God’s purposes
God has a purpose and call on your life. For Paul, as we saw in the previous section, God promised him that his (God’s) power was made perfect in weakness. In other words, God’s power picks up where our weakness leaves off!
It may not fit God’s purpose for the moment as well. Sometimes healing comes in the moment, sometimes years later. He may need us to learn lessons, mature spiritually, grow in dependence on him or simply be in different circumstances.
You make unwise choices
When we ask God to heal, it is certainly evident that we must do our part. For some unhealthy individuals, lifestyle choices have contributed to their condition. A sad example that I know of was about a man who was morbidly obese and suffered from type 2 diabetes. He lost his sight and prayed that he might regain his vision. Even as he believed and prayed, he continued to consume sugary drinks and snacks making his diabetes even worse.
Our choices often have a bearing on our health and the consequences of those choices cannot be ignored.
You rebel
When we are prompted by God’s Word or the loving counsel of another follower of Jesus that we need to make better choices in order for God to make transformational changes in our lives and we reject that counsel, we should not expect a miracle.
Many of God’s promises are conditional. Even if we believe that God can do anything for anyone at any time, it may not be enough. While we hold this belief in our minds, our actions may belie our words. If we ack like God won’t do anything for us, we are truly expressing a lack of this transformational faith!
Your turn
God wants to make a profound difference in your life. Will you exercise transformational faith and allow him to work a miracle?
